According to the preliminary data of the State Statistical Office, obtained from the annual reports of business entities and other sources, the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2016 was 598 881 million denars and in comparison with 2015 it increased by 7.1% in nominal terms.

The real GDP growth rate in 2016, compared to 2015, was 2.9%. The following sectors had the biggest share of value added in the structure of GDP in 2016:

  • (G, H and I) Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles;
  • Transportation and storage;
  • Accommodation and food service activities (18.7%).

The final consumption in 2016, in comparison with 2015, increased by 2.6% in nominal terms, while its share in the structure of GDP was 82.1%. In 2016, the share of export of goods and services in GDP was 50.0%.

The nominal increase in the value of gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) for 2016, compared to 2015, was 7.7%. In the technical structure of GFCF, construction participated with 62.7%, machinery and equipment with 30.1%, and the rest of GFCF with 7.2%.
